“Did you used to ask Lin Wei why he treated me well? Huo Qi Jun! Don’t you feel ashamed?!”
“Speak normally, why shout?” Huo Qi Jun’s sense of guilt made him suddenly less imposing.
“Ha!” Fu Xiao Qing finally returned a syllable to him.
“…”
And just like that, another month went by in a flurry of activity. The company affairs were nearing conclusion, and after the latest impromptu shareholder meeting, Huo Qi Jun finally gained control over the Huo family.
After the meeting adjourned, Huo’s mother and son tacitly didn’t rush to leave; they let others gradually depart until the conference room was left with just the two of them.
After that evening when she discovered his relationship with Lin Wei, Huo’s old lady first looked him in the eyes: “If you just wanted to throw a tantrum to make me regret it, then you’ve achieved your goal.”
Huo Qi Jun felt uncomfortable hearing this; his gradually blossoming feelings for Lin Wei were entirely unrelated to those messy troubles!
“Break up with him,” Huo’s old lady continued talking to herself, reasonably ‘conceding’: “You’ve grown up, and regardless of whether I accept Fu Xiao Qing or not, I can’t stop your decision. Since that’s the case, go find Fu Xiao Qing again, or if you’ve set your eyes on another woman, in any case, why sacrifice yourself…”
“Mom.” Huo Qi Jun suddenly interrupted her and then lowered his head with a faint smile, saying: “Lin Wei is right; he knows me better than you do. I wouldn’t sell myself just to throw a tantrum at you!”
This was different from when he stubbornly pursued Fu Xiao Qing before; that had been an impulsive chase that faded quickly, whereas being with Lin Wei felt as though he had genuinely bent himself.
Thinking back on the entire process felt quite embarrassing; the person he clearly had a crush on was Lin Wei, yet it was him who appeared anxious and restless!
He was unwilling to hear his mother’s misunderstanding through colored glasses, and he shut down all her advice with a single sentence:
“I like him.”
Very, very much.
Not using adjectives was his last stubbornness in saving face, but even Huo’s old lady, who was unwilling to believe it, could hear the overflowing sincerity in those four words.
To part on bad terms was expected.
Huo Qi Jun was hardly affected; when he returned to the office, he met Yu Yu who had come to resign. He retained her with a few symbolic words before approving it, which was what Lin Wei had arranged with him beforehand.
“Thank you for Mr. Lin,” Yu Yu smiled lightly at Huo Qi Jun, finding peace in her twisted thoughts. Perhaps Huo Qi Jun was a reward from heaven for Lin Wei, this good person; it was only right for him to be packaged perfectly. Lin Wei deserved it, and he truly did not need to feel jealous.
Huo Qi Jun felt Yu Yu’s smile had some deeper meaning; he expressionlessly nodded in response and then turned his head to pretend he had forgotten completely.
From that day on, Huo Qi Jun felt thoroughly free and finally had the time to ponder over the current state of his relationship with Lin Wei…
They had hugged, kissed, and shared a bed for so long, yet they still held back. Huo Qi Jun didn’t want to, but the ambiguity of their roles made it inappropriate to ask; he had held it back until now!
But why did Lin Wei seem completely unhurried, not revealing any desire at all…?
Lin Wei noticed that Huo Qi Jun had been increasingly coming to him like ice cream that wanted to cling to him all the time, also always hesitating about something. When asked about it, he would falter for a long time and then refuse to speak.
“Have you become bored with having some free time lately?” Lin Wei could only guess and suggested, “How about taking a vacation and going somewhere fun?”
“Hmm?” Huo Qi Jun was lying on Lin Wei’s lap, quietly looking at the ‘study materials’ sent by Fang Yueyue; upon hearing this, he instinctively wanted to say he didn’t feel bored.
God knows why he could be so infatuated that he didn’t feel tired even when spending the whole day with Lin Wei without uttering a word. Even he found that incredible.
But thinking about it, a change of scenery could be nice? Perhaps Lin Wei had just gotten so used to being his best friend all these years that even the familiar environment affected him silently, tugging at his rationality and leaving him with the slightest room for possibility in their relationship.
“Alright, let’s find a resort!” Huo Qi Jun didn’t plan on running too far: “Not too far, not too crowded, and preferably don’t pre-book anything; we can rest for a couple of days first.”
“Okay.” Lin Wei had no objections. Recently, Huo Qi Jun certainly had been either busy working overtime or on business trips, and now taking him for a break should clearly prioritize his wishes.
In the end, they chose a small island, and since it wasn’t the tourist season, there weren’t many people on the beach during the daytime. Lin Wei gave up on hotels and booked a beach villa instead.
The day they arrived, there were only a handful of people on the entire beach, and it was delightfully quiet; the sound of the waves crashing against the sand calmed their restless minds.
“This place is nice,” Huo Qi Jun listened to the sound of the waves on the balcony for a while and turned back to see Lin Wei opening the suitcase in the room. He was about to go in and help when he suddenly noticed a few particularly eye-catching items…
His ears turned bright red in an instant.
“You… when did you prepare this?” Huo Qi Jun walked in and sat on the edge of the bed, seemingly casually reaching for one item, glancing at it repeatedly to confirm he wasn’t mistaken, then hesitantly asked.
Lin Wei gave him a meaningful glance: “Isn’t this the reason you wanted to come out this time? What, did I take it the wrong way?”
He realized it only after hearing Huo Qi Jun’s long list of ‘don’t want this, don’t want that’ requirements; his cat hardly liked to go out for strolls unless there was a purpose!
As for what the purpose might be, considering Huo Qi Jun’s recent longing for physical contact, one could nearly guess it.
“Ahem!” Huo Qi Jun’s face turned crimson all the way to his neck, holding onto his pride as he said, “What… do you know my size?”
